On June 3, Lucasfilm posted on Starwars.com a message of support for John Boyega. Boyega gave an emotional speech at a Hyde Park demonstration about the death of George Floyd. Condemning racism and giving support to every black person who remembers when another person “reminded you that you were black” Boyega also encourages support for black women. Lucasfilm, has announced their approval of Boyega’s remarks.
Boyega’s message that, “Now is the time. Black lives have always mattered. Black lives have always been important. Black lives have always meant something.” was the line that Lucasfilm drew attention to in their post.

Lucasfilm has stated:
“The evil that is racism must stop. We will commit to being part of the change that is long overdue in the world.”
Boyega may have feared for his job because he was speaking out. At one point he admits ” I don’t know if I will have a career after this.” However, Starwars.com and Lucasfilm have called Boyega their “hero”.
